This is the first pixie photograph I ever created. In 1999, only six months after my first use of Photoshop, a customer brought in an old photograph of his grandmother as a child to be restored and colorized. He also gave me free reign in regards to turning the photo into art.

I knew exactly what I wanted to do as soon as I saw the picture.

I took the colors for her eyes (after verifying the eye color with the client) and clothing from the wings, and her skin and hair colors from photos of relatives he'd provided as being appropriate. Still fairly new to the world of image manipulation, I got quite a boost when the studio owner's wife commented that the picture would look great as a hand-colored piece, unaware that that was what she was looking at - she'd thought that the colorization I'd done was the original state of the photo!
